If you told me 3 years ago that I would lose weight due to technology, I would’ve shut your mouth with a drumstick. Due to pandemic, I became obese due to stress, no proper knowledge about food, sedentary lifestyle, and processed foods. But everything changed when I used the internet as an advantage, using apps, websites, digital tools, and online tutorials to gain knowledge about being healthy and losing weight.
Today, not only am I way more healthier, but I also help and teach others who are struggling to lose or gain weight to become the best version of themselves. Now, as a fitness instructor, technology and online tools drive everything that I do every day.
TECH AS MY TEACHER
Before I started teaching, internet taught me first.
Everything knowledge regarding fitness and food, I owe it from the internet and online tools. Knowledge about workouts, diets, and recovery all came from:
GOOGLE SCHOLAR - For finding new studies regarding muscles, workouts, etc.
Youtube/Tiktok - For proper form, execution, and routines
MyfitnessPal - For tracking calories, nutrients, and food overall.
Social medias - For connecting with other people in fitness industry
These online tools guided me through everything and acted as my “teacher” that shaped me and my job. Without these, I would’ve probably still been the obese me.
AS AN ONLINE FITNESS INSTRUCTOR/COACH
When people hear about “Fitness instructor” they initially think about coaches on gym who teaches face to face, physical classes, etc. But me? NO.
Thanks to the tools that we have right now, I have been living a life where I can help others, earn money, and still do the things that I love.
When we think of adult life, we always think 99% work, 1% rest, and 0% fun. But thanks to technology and online tools that we have right, I can avoid all of those, especially the 99%.
Here is the list of online tools that I use to gain knowledge, pass on knowledge, and work with ease:
CREATING
As an online instructor, one of the struggles when it comes to teaching clients is not seeing clearly how to do certain things. But thanks to these tools, I am able to clearly show and visualize to them how certain things work. The tool is Canva.
Creating slides with pictures to clearly explain
Creating guidelines
Making complicated things to explain way more easier to teach them through visualization
Canva slides are one of the foundations of why my clients took me as their instructor. They don’t have to read bunch of papers; they just need to read and focus on the slides I’m showing to them
TEACHING
Since I cannot physically meet my clients in person, I need to find a way to virtually meet them and assess their body and needs. The tool is ZOOM
1-on-1 meeting with my clients to assess them, teach them, and clarify their questions
Live gym session if needed, especially for exercise execution
Monitoring their progress through physically changes I can see on them
Zoom doesn’t care where you are; access and meet people 24/7. With this tool, I manage to keep my clients in check.
COMMUNICATING
While Zoom is a great tool for communicating, there’s no need to see your client’s face whenever they have a question or you have a reminder for them. Thanks to these two tools, I manage to keep my clients in check in just seconds. The tools are MESSENGER & EMAIL
Sending their meal plan through email
reminding them about their payment through email
reminding them and keeping them in check through messenger
Answering their inquiries regarding fitness, food, and workouts 24/7 through messenger.
Communication between you and your clients builds a relationship as well. I’m not just their coach; I am also their friend that they can keep in touch with fitness-wise or no.
TRACKING
In this industry, a way to keep your resume clean and eye-catching is through your clients' progress. Luckily, I monitor my clients progress through this tool, and also put his information in this tool. The online tool is GOOGLE DOCS.
Side-by-side comparison picture of my clients progress from starting point to current
Keeping their information, such as age, starting weight, and sex
Progress is everything in fitness; that is why keeping yours in check is everything.
CONCLUSION
The rise of technologies creates a lot of opportunities for people to learn, change things, and innovate more. Currently, technology is our main mode to educate ourselves on several topics, not only in academics but also outside it.
As for me, technology helps me educate myself more regarding fitness, body, diet, and workout. It also brought something new to my life, and I owe it to my job, online fitness instructor.
